DOES POSITIVE THINKING ACTUALLY WORK?

I was a pessimist. As a pessimist, you jump to the worst conclusion­s and let negative thoughts cloud your judgement. It is often easier than being optimistic and hopeful. Everybody tells you to look at the brigher side, because every cloud has a silver lining. But does it work?

Skeptics hardly believe in it. Every time I have confronted a problem, I expected negative results from it. I justified my pessimism by arguing that being a pessimist meant being always correct and have the option to be pleasantly surprised. Turns out, that’s an optimistic way to look at pessimism. But one thing that I’ve learnt is that if you believe in something, it will happen.

We often underestim­ate the power of positive thinking and the wonders it can do. There are numerous stories about people who came out of dire circumstan­ces only due to their tremendous will power and optimistic belief.

While choosing between being calm and hopeful versus being gloomy and negative, I would always choose the former now.

It doesn’t hurt to be an optimist, a believer of good things and that problems do vanish, in the end. It is easier to give in to gloom, despair and self pity but harder to be positive and expect the best. But then, difficult roads lead to beautiful destinatio­ns
