KANPUR: An Unnao court on Friday extended the custodial remand of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is accused of raping a teenage girl last year, by seven more days.

The CBI produced Sengar in the designated court number 10 in Unnao.

Special judge, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Ashutosh Kumar extended Sengar’s CBI remand for another seven days after hearing the argument of special prosecutor (POCSO) Chandrika Bajpai. Earlier on April 14, the CBI court in Lucknow had remanded Sengar to CBI custody for seven days which was to expire on Friday night.

The court said Sengar should be produced before it at 10 am on April 27. Only CBI officials and special prosecutor were present in the court during the hearing. Besides rape, Sengar also faces charges of hatching a conspiracy to kill the victim girl’s father.

The CBI is investigating both the cases simultaneously. Kuldeep’s brother Atul Singh Sengar and four others are in CBI custody in connection with the assault and murder of the girl’s father.

The CBI sent co-accused Shashi Singh to jail and did not press for her custody.
