Rehab varsity forms panel to probe into girl student’s suicide
LUCKNOW: Students of Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU), who were staging a demonstration after the alleged suicide of a girl student on Thursday, ended their agitation on Friday afternoon.
The 15-hour protest came to an end after the varsity registrar assured them that their demand for better medical facilities on the campus and financial compensation to the deceased’s kin will be met with.
A 20-year-old girl student of the university had allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan of her hostel room, on the university campus, in Para area on Thursday evening, police said.
The girl, Parul from Deoria, was pursuing B Ed part I from the university.
Students staged a protest against university officials for lack of medical facilities as there was no ambulance on the campus at the time of incident.

Praveer Kumar, V-C, Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University said a committee was formed under Prof Shefali Yadav to probe into the alleged suicide of the girl student.
The committee was asked to submit its report within seven days.
It is also expected to give recommendations to improve facilities on the campus.
The V-C said lacklustre attitude of any staff responsible for hostel upkeep would not be tolerated and complaints of students pertaining to hostel and mess would be looked into. University officials said the reason behind girl’s extreme step was not known.
