IAF STAGES MOCK CASUALTY EVACUATION IN ALLAHABAD

-

A mass casualty evacuation mock exercise was undertaken by the IAF) at old Phaphamau airfield, in Allahabad on Friday.

The exercise involved airlifting of 40 casualties to Amausi airport in Lucknow for further treatment at Command Hospital by a C-130 J Super Hercules aircraft.

The operation was undertaken from Phaphamau airfield, which is of WW-II vintage and was not used for more than five decades. The ability of C-130 J aircraft to operate from unprepared surfaces along with its Short Take-off and Landing (STOL) capability allowed it to land at abandoned airfield with a usable runway length of only 4000 feet.
