Lucknow: The Yogi government has decided to start government inter colleges in minority dominated areas of the state to ensure Muslim children get quality education.

Under its multi sectorial development programme, the state government plans to come up with 37 such colleges in 13 districts across the state. Most of these districts are in western Uttar Pradesh.

The secondary education department has decided to generate 851 posts of teaching and non-teaching staff in these colleges. Each college will have a total of 23 posts, including teachers and non-teachers.

According to deputy CM Dinesh Sharma, who is also minister of secondary and higher education, all these government inter colleges are likely to start functioning from February next year.

Each college will have post of a principal, nine lecturers, seven assistant teachers, one senior teacher, one junior assistant and four class four employees.

The government’s decision is in pursuance of its policy to connect Muslim children with mainline education system. Students there will also be imparted vocational training in various skills to make them self-reliant.

Muslim scholars have meanwhile welcomed the state government’s decision.

“The state government’s decision is a step forward to persuade more Muslim children to join mainstream education system instead of going to madrasas. Western parts of the state are an ideal place to start government inter colleges,” said a senior government official.

In June last, the state government had felicitated top 10 meritorious students of all three education Boards of class 10, 12 and awarded ₹one lakh each, a tablet and Rani Lakshmi Bai award.

The government had also honoured parents of students and principals of the institutions where students had studied.
