Lucknow Tigers, Rajat XI win titles in five-a-side hockey

LUCKNOW:Lucknow Tigers scored a thrilling 5-4 win against Lucknow Nawab to win the juniors title of the Welcome Summer Five-A-Side Hockey Tournament, at the CB Gupt Ground here on Friday.

Abhishek scored a brace, whereas Yaseen, Kuldeep and Aryan shared three goals between them for the winners. For Lucknow Nawab, Rohit, Sneh, Saurabh and Ansh scored a goal each. Rajat XI won the subjunior title, defeating Karan XI 2-0. Muskan and Raj shared two goals between them.

Lucknow Tigers also did well in the juniors semi-final, defeating Lucknow Ganj 4-2. Aryan and Abhishek scored two goals each, whereas Wahid and Tushar had a goal each for Lucknow Ganj.

The second semi-final between Lucknow Nawab and Ganj Eleven turned out to be a one-sided affair as former won by 8-3. Displaying a fine stick work, Sneh scored three goals, whereas Ansh netted a brace. Saurabh, Rohit and Shekhar had a goal each.

TWENTY20 CRICKET

The 1st Kranti Veterans Twenty20 Cricket Tournament begins on May 6, at the Multi Activities Ground here. Organising secretary, JB Saxena states players above 35 years of age would be allowed to represent a team.

SELECTED

Two judokas from Uttar Pradesh, Vijay Kumar Yadav (60 kg) and Ajay Yadav (73) have been selected in the Indian squad to participat­e in the South Asian Championsh­ip to be held at Nepal. Another one from the state Umesh Kumar Singh would also be officiatin­g in the event.

LUCKNOW SHREE

Khalid was adjudged ‘Lucknow Shree’ as he won the best physique championsh­ip here on Thursday night. Irfan and Brijesh were adjudged best muscleman and best poser.

BIG WIN

Gulmohar Cricket Academy defeated SI Club by 198 runs to collect full points in the CAL’s C division cricket league here on Friday. After scoring 231/9 in 40 overs, GCA got the rivals out for 143 in 33.1 overs.

In other matches of the day, Lucknow Unique Academy beat Jubilee Cricket Academy by four wickets, DYA beat AS Gymkhana by three wickets, Lucknow Cricket Foundation beat St Ann’s Cricket Academy by one run, GGS College beat REPL by 18 runs and Mehta Sporting beat N Sporting by six wickets.
