LUCKNOW : Lucknowites would have no respite from hot and dry weather in the upcoming days, said the met department. On Saturday too, scorching sun remained unbearable for commuters and pedestrians.

“There is no possibility of rain or overcast skies building up in the state. Thus, the weather conditions are likely to remain hot and dry across the state. The day and night temperatures would only witness a variation of one or two degrees,” said JP Gupta, regional met office director.

As per the met department report, the day temperature on Saturday was 38.6 degrees Celsius which was 1 degree below normal while at night, and the night temperature in the state capital was recorded as 24.5 degrees which was 2 degrees above normal.

The conditions remained similar across the state. At many stations, mercury crossed the 40-degree bar. Allahabad remained the hottest in the state during the day. It recorded 41.7 degrees Celsius as maximum temperature which was 1 degree above normal. This was followed by Varanasi and Churk which recorded 40.4 degrees Celsius each. Sultanpur recorded 40.2 degrees.

Roads remained deserted during day hours in the state capital.

“The heat was piercing. Lack of trees on the roadsides is only adding to trouble of those who have no option but to move out of homes during day hours in the heat,” said Sangeeta Dubey, a home maker.

As mercury continues to soar, doctors advice change in diet and follow precautionary measures to avoid falling ill.

“It is a must to include good quantity of liquids in the diet. People should ensure that their body is hydrated before they move out during afternoon hours. Avoiding sudden changes from air conditioned cars and rooms to open area is suggested,” said Prof Vinod Jain, senior faculty at King George’s Medical University.
