GORAKHPUR: A class 10 student, along with another minor friend, created a fake twitter account of UP director general of police OP Singh and used it for the last two months to keep directing the police to act on his order, police said. One of these purported orders pertained to a forgery complaint in which a person cheated the boy’s family by taking Rs 15,000 on promising job for the accused’s elder brother, police said.

A Lucknow cyber police team on Friday picked up the accused from his home in Bhathat area here. An FIR was already registered in Lucknow after police personnel ,to whom directives were issued, suspected the authenticity of the account handler and sought cyber cells ‘s help in cracking the case. The accused was traced after cyber cell managed to find the mobile number through which the account was created. The mobile number was put on surveillance.

As they were minors, the accused were let off after a strict warning not to indulge in such an act again. Police officials familiar with the matter said the duo told police that a man from Shyamderua area in Maharajganj took money from the class 10 boy’s elder brother, promising to send him abroad with a well-paid job in an MNC but he later backed out and refused to return the money.

When the class 10 boy’s family was not able to get the money back despite lodging a fake complaint , he made a fake account of the DGP on twitter with the help of his friend and started directing officials to take action in his case.

“We will run an awareness campaign against cyber crime in schools and colleges and among traders and administrative officials who investigate such cases,” Gorakhpur SSP Shalabh Mathur said.
