YADAVS, CHAUHANS DRINK MORE: RAJBHAR
VARANASI : Uttar Pradesh minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar, who is known for speaking out against his own government, made yet another controversial statement on Friday.
Rajbhar said members of the Yadav and Chauhan communities drank more heavily than other communities since it was “their ancestral business”.

“Rajbhar, Kewat, Mallah, Pal, Prajapati and Pal also drink liquor. Rajbhars are often blamed for drinking heavily. But the situation is a bit different. Is samay, sabse zyada darooYadav peete hai, chauhan peete hai (Yadav and Chauhans drink more heavily than other communities since it is their ancestral business),” he told reporters at the circuit house.
He also said liquor should be banned as it was evil.
“Drunkards ignore their families. They don’t enrol their children in schools. They spend their earnings on liquor. Liquor is a bad thing. I have been saying for the last 15 years that this should come to an end,” he said.
A formal campaign for a ban on liquor will be launched from Ballia on May 20, he said.
Liquor ban would bring a positive change in lives of the poor, he said.
To a question, Rajbhar said the SBSP will remain in alliance with the BJP till 2024.
He also said he would leave no stone unturned to ensure the NDA’s victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha election so that Narendra Modi could get another term as PM.
Rajbhar had earlier threatened to review his party’s ties with the BJP over chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s alleged indifference to his demands. He had also said corruption was rampant in the state government. The SBSP chief was mollified after a meeting with BJP chief Amit Shah in Lucknow on April 11.
