At BRD, 4 of 5 injured continue to be critical
GORAKHPUR: There was only a little relief for the kin of those injured in the Kushinagar school vantrain tragedy as four of the five injured, admitted to BRD Medical College here, continued to be in critical condition on Friday.
Thirteen children had died and eight others were injured in the unmanned railway crossing accident on Thursday.
Neyaz Ahmed, driver of the school van, who had suffered severe head and body injuries and multiple fractures, was in coma and on ventilator support, doctors said.
Two of three injured children -Taleem, 7 and Roshni 10 -- showed only a little signs of recovery but continued to be critical and on ventilator support. Sameer, 9, cousin brother of Taleem, also continued to be critical and was on ventilator support. However, doctors said 9-year-old Krishna Verma (brother of Roshni) was quite better now after they attended to his leg fracture.
“He is fully conscious and is in a position to speak. His father Kailash Verma is attending to him in the hospital,” a doctor said.
“The condition of all the injured, including the driver, is stable but not much can just now as they are in a trauma,” BRD Medical College principal Dr Ganesh Kumar said.
Expressing satisfaction over the treatment of his son, Kailash Verma said the boy was fine and his daughter Roshni was doing well. Her condition has improved by 50 per cent, he said.
“Doctors who are attending to the kids have said that soon she (Roshni) will regain consciousness,” said Verma, who was joined in the hospital by his kin, including maternal grandparents of the kids.
Inamullah, uncle of Taleem and Sameer, said that while Taleem was showing signs of recovery, Sameer was still critical. “He has not gained consciousness as yet,” said the 35-year-old Inamullah.
Inamullah’s eldest brother Hasan lost two daughters in the Kushinagar accident -- Tamanna and Sajida -- while Hasan’s only son Sameer was under treatment here. Taleem is the son of Hasan’s younger brother Jamaluddin, who owns a chemist shop in Dudah. Meanwhile, the kin of the injured kids and van driver were handed over cheques of Rs 1 lakh each from Railways for treatment of the injured.
