Experts discuss complex fracture patterns

-

LUCKNOW: The first day of the three-day 8th AOTRAUMA India national conference “AOTICON2018” was dedicated to new methods of fracture treatment.

Various sessions were held on Friday including the one of complex fracture of the lower limb. “Fracture patterns have changed and now not one or two but even more bones are involved, often near the joints such as the knee,” said Dr Sandeep Kapoor, organising secretary of the 8th AOTRAUMA India national conference “AOTICON-2018”.

We are observing new fracture patterns nowadays and in fact two or three in ten fractures of road accident are complex, said Dr Sandeep Garg, co-convener of the event.

Sample a case where a bike rider is hit by a speeding car. If the bike rider falls down and pressure comes upon one limb, there are chances that bones just above and below the knee might break resulting into floating knee. “In such a situation the doctor has to treat floating knee and not just two broken bones and there are different protocols for this type of injury,” said Dr Kapoor, director Healthcity hospital and trauma centre. The speakers dwelt on “injuries inside and around joints” and explained different treatments for different types of injuries. Foot and ankle injuries also made part of the various scientific sessions. Over 250 participants attended the sessions. The event was coordinated by Dr Pulkit, Dr AN Siddiqui and Dr Sandeep Kapoor.
