Lucknow, Agra lads bag 30th, 33rd ranks in UPSC exam

LUCKNOW: Sandeep Bhagia, 29, made the city proud by bagging 30th rank in the UPSC examinatio­n, result of which was declared on Friday evening. “It was my fifth and last attempt. Last year, I got through the Indian Defence Account Services. But this year I’m happy to have improved my tally,” said Sandeep who graduated from IIT Delhi. Former president APJ Abdul Kalam the role model of Sandeep, a pass-out of Lucknow Public School in Aashiana.

Utsav Gautam,25 of Agra obtained 33rd rank in the UPSC exams. A pass-out of IIT Patna, Utsav served at Mathura Refinery for 10 months but wished to do something for society and began preparatio­n for civil services. He succeeded in his fourth attempt.

“‘I owe my success to my father who always wanted me to scale great heights and my mother Sadhna Gautam, a home maker, who always stood by me,” said Utsav. Incidental­ly, he also admires former president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Engineer Vishal Mishra secured 49th rank in the UPSC examinatio­n in his third attempt. After completing engineerin­g from HBTI, Kanpur, Vishal did M Tech from IIT Kanpur. “I wanted to contribute something to society and so I decided to appear in civil service examinatio­n,” he said. He took his first attempt in 2015 and second in 2016. But he cracked the exam with 49th rank this year. His father Hari Prasad Mishra retired as principal of Government Inter College, Kannuaj while mother Sudha Mishra is a housewife.

His success mantra is: “Believe in yourself. Better planning and regular studies will help in a big way. Self-confidence plays an important role in cracking such important exams.” His tip for aspiring civil servant is study NCERT books.
