GHAZIABAD: Officials of the Ghaziabad crime branch said that investigation revealed details of flats and several expensive cars owned by accused Krishna Kumar Singh.

He was arrested by Ghaziabad crime branch along with Kunwar Fazal Choudhary, a former member of UP minority commission, for allegedly impersonating senior politicians for personal gains.

Sources in the crime branch said Singh owns several expensive cars, including a Mercedes, BMW and an Etios. Apart from this, he owns three flats in prime localities of East Delhi, despite studying up to only class 12. They added that Choudhary was earlier a brick kiln operator and later turned into a politician.

“Through the social media profiles of Choudhary, we have come to know that he was fond of getting pictures clicked with renowned politicians and post these online. That is how Singh made inroads in the political and bureaucratic circles. He later came in touch with Choudhary and both allegedly started making calls to settle cases,” Dinesh Yadav, inspector, crime branch, said.

Sources in the crime branch said the accused mostly made calls to UP bureaucrats from Lucknow and sometimes from Mumbai for personal favours. The calls from Lucknow were allegedly made from near the Vidhan Sabha so that an inquiry or electronic tracing of records would not arouse suspicion, the police said. According to police officers, calls were also made to the office of the Uttar Pradesh director general of police (DGP), principal secretary (home) and officers of the Delhi Police and Mumbai Police. Similar calls were also made to police officers in UP districts, such as Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar and Moradabad, as well.

“We are trying to ascertain, from their call records, the number of calls they made and an inquiry will also be made into the properties of the accused. We will also inquire if they managed to accomplish any favours through the phone calls. The SIM cards allegedly used by them were registered in Delhi and UP,” Vaibhav Krishna, senior superintendent of police, Ghaziabad, said.

According to the police, Choudhary had made inroads into the local police network, as he was a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad. He allegedly pressurised officials to get works done and settle cases in his favour. The number of calls he made to different station officers and senior police officers will also be looked into, the police said.
