Centre set to ask SC for more time on Cauvery issue today

NEW DELHI: The central government will file an application in the Supreme Court on Wednesday, asking for more time to formulate the scheme for the distribution of Cauvery water. While the plea is likely to be made on the ground that the scheme is being given final touches, an official familiar with the developments said the “real purpose” was to delay it till elections in Karnataka on May 12. “The scheme is almost ready. The time is being deliberately sought to delay the formation of the scheme till elections,” said the above official.
