UP girls and boys teams in national hockey quarters
LUCKNOW:Yogita Bora scored four goals as favourites Uttar Pradesh marched into the quarterfinals of the 8th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship 2018 (A Division) in Bhopal on Tuesday, crushing Hockey Coorg 8-1.
This was Uttar Pradesh’s third victory in the Pool C match. Anshika drew the first blood in the 10th minute before striking her second in the 50th minute, but it was Yogita, who set the ball rolling in real terms. She scored in the 20th, 22nd, 39th and 47th minutes, respectively.
Sonal Tiwari (31’) and Akanksha Shukla (56’) shared two goals between them, while M Devi (68’) scored the only goal for Hockey Coorg. Now, UP take on Hockey Mizoram, which played out a 2-2 draw with Hockey Punjab to secure the top spot in the Pool D with a tally of 10 points.
Lalrinfeli (1’) and Lalrinpuii (43’) scored for Mizoram, whereas skipper Mitali (13’) and Simranjit Kaur (22’) scored for Hockey Punjab.
Uttar Pradesh men also scored a comprehensive 9-1 win against Manipur Hockey to make it to the quarterfinals with a tally of 10 points.
Goals for the victors were scored by Uttam Singh (38’, 39’, 45’), Shivam Anand (33’, 34’), Vishal Singh (13’), skipper Mohd Faraz (15’), Prashant Chauhan (54’) and Vishal Verma (69’) while Suresh Surenshangbam (56’) scored the only goal for Manipur Hockey.
In a Pool C match, Hockey Punjab played out a 3-3 draw with Services Sports Control Board to finish second in the Pool standings with a tally of eight points, one ahead of Services Sports Control Board. Goals for Hockey Punjab were scored by Parampreet Singh (9’), Khusman Singh (16’) and Ranjot Singh (46’) while H Mani Singh (25’, 29’, 51’) scored a hat-trick of goals for Services Sports Control Board.
Earlier, in Pool A of the girls section, it was Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy who finished top with a tally of eight points as they played out a goal-less draw against Delhi Hockey.
Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy needed a positive result in their last match to be able to qualify for the Quarter-finals, and Delhi Hockey needed a win. But the former’s defence made sure that their team registered a place in the next round with their second draw of the competition.
In the other Pool A match, The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. registered their first win of the competition as they beat Hockey Gangpur-Odisha 4-3. Goals for The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. were scored by Rruchi Bhandari (3’), Lynette Lobo (9’), Manshi Belgaonkar (18’) and skipper Resham Mahadik (60’) while Topno Aten (20’, 61’) and skipper Jiwan Kishori Toppo (17’) scored for Hockey Gangpur-Odisha, who also qualified for the Quarter-final

with a second-placed finish in Pool A.
In Pool B, Hockey Haryana registered a thumping 11-2 victory over Chhattisgarh Hockey to qualify for the Quarter-finals as the second-placed team in the Pool. Goals for Hockey Haryana were scored by Amandeep Kaur (9’, 14’, 24’, 29’), Amrinder Kaur (7’, 31’, 54’), Reet (21’), Anu (45’), Kajal (63’) and Manisha (64’) while Anjali Mahto (33’) and Anju Kerketta (67’) scored the goals for Chhattisgarh Hockey.
In the other Pool B match, Hockey Odisha defeated Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 10-1 to qualify for the Quarter-finals as the Pool B toppers with a tally of 12 points from four matches.
Goals for Hockey Odisha were scored by Elima Minz (8’, 43’, 59’, 66’), Abinasi Mukti Surin (14’, 45’, 67’), Ashim Kanchan Barla (4’, 55’) and Neha Lakra (60’) while M Janani (37’) scored Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu’s only goal of the match.
In Pool C, Hockey Jharkhand qualified as the toppers with a tally of 12 points from four matches.
