Bhullar loses in playoff as Korean Park clinches title

SEONGNAM, KOREA: South Korean golfer Park Sang-hyun on Sunday clinched victory at the Asian Tour’s GS Caltex Maekyung Open for the second time after beating compatriot Chang Yi-keun in a nail-biting playoff.

Park went head-to-head with fellow South Koreans Chang and Hwang Jung-gon, together with India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar, after all four closed the final round at a one-under-par 283 at the Namseoul Country Club. Bhullar fell with a bogey at the first playoff hole before world number 141 Hwang was eliminated on the second with a poorly-played putt -- leaving Park and Chang with a final showdown at 18th fairway.

ADITI IN JOINT LEAD

CHICAGO:Denmark’s Nicole Broch Larsen seized a one-stroke lead with three birdies and no bogeys in the first 14 holes of her second round Saturday at the storm-hit LPGA Texas Classic.

India’s Aditi Ashok and Mexico’s Gaby Lopez were at 6-under in their second rounds, in joint lead. Ashok, seeking her first LPGA title sank a 12-foot par putt at the par-3 14th to stand on 6-under when play was halted.

JAIPUR SIBLINGS WIN

BANGALORE: Fardeen Qamar and Farhat Aleen Qamar, the brother and sister from Jaipur, won the U-18 Roland Garros series event. Fardeen, a class XII student, won the boys event with a commanding 6-1 6-0 win over Delhi’s Ayush Deshwal while XIth standard student Farhat came from behind to beat Sharanya Gaware and claim girls title.

KADHE RUNNER-UP

NEW DELHI: India’s Arjun Kadhe ended runners up at ITF Futures event in Abuja, Nigeria after losing the final in straight sets to Brazil’s Joao Menezes. Playing his fourth final on ITF circuit this season, the 397th-ranked Kadhe lost 3-6, 1-6.
