Dalit youth killed by girlfriend’s father

MUZAFFARNA­GAR: An 18-year-old Dalit youth was allegedly shot dead by the father of his girlfriend when he had gone to her house to meet her in the late night hours on Monday.

Police recovered the body of the youth from the balcony of the girl’s house. The accused was sent to jail after the weapon used in the murder was recovered from his possession.

According to police sources, one Ram Kumar, a resident of village Sakhan Khurd under Deoband police station of district Saharanpur who was currently residing in Bachan Singh Colony, informed the New Mandi police that at about 9pm on Monday, his son Vikas had gone to a market nearby. But when he did not return till midnight, a search was initiated, said Kumar.

Kumar added that later he was informed that crowd had gathered at the house of one Anil Kumar Gupta residing in Nirala Nagar locality under New Mandi police station, and when he reached there he found the body of his son lying in the balcony of the house. On getting the informatio­n a police team headed by inspector Har Saran Sharma arrived at the spot and recovered the body of Vikas. Deceased Vikas had received a gunshot injury in his head. Ram Kumar told police that Vikas and Anil Kumar Gupta's daughter were having an affair following which Gupta had threatened to kill Vikas. Inspector Har Saran Sharma said after sending the body for post mortem examinatio­n, police arrested Anil Kumar Gupta. Police also recovered the country made pistol from the possession of Gupta which was used in the murder and sent him to Jail under sections 302 of IPC and 3(2)(5) of SC/ST Act.
