Confusion over moon sighting, many miss 1st roza
Lucknowites are happy as for the first time in history, Muslims across the world will celebrate Eid together
LUCKNOW: Majority of the Muslims in the state capital missed their taravi prayers on Wednesday while many couldn’t observe roza on Thursday following the confusion over the moon sighting.
But one thing they are happy about is that it’s for the first time in the history that Muslims across the world would celebrate Eid together.
“As the announcement was made too late and that too amidst confusion, many of us missed the taravi prayers and many couldn’t observe Roza either,” said Bilal Arshad, an entrepreneur.
Confusion over moon sighting began on Wednesday evening when the versions of Markazi Chand Committee differed from those of the Shia Chand Committee that announced sighting of moon, well beforehand.
The Markazi Chand Committee that initially denied moon sighting too announced the sighting almost an hour later which led to all the confusion.
Unlike Shia Muslims, confusion was more among the Sunni Muslims as they said since Shia
Chand Committee first made the announcement, they mistook that the announcement was meant for Shia Muslims and not for them.
“In fact, unlike Shia Chand Committee that officially announced sighting of moon on Wednesday, there was no official announcement from Markazi Chand Committee and it was only through newspapers that people came to know that moon has been sighted,” said Mohammed Ashraf.
However, he expressed happiness over the fact that Muslims across the world would celebrate Eid together.
Similar queries flooded the helpline launched by Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, president of Markazi
Chand Committee, a day before.
At the helpline, there were many who enquired about what they can do if they failed to keep first roza. There were other queries as well.
“There were queries like what they should do if they fail to observe roza, the first day. There were other queries as well. The queries were redressed,” said Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali.
Maulana said it’s for the first time in the history that Muslims across the world would celebrate Eid together.
“Generally in India, moon is sighted a day after it gets sighted in Middle East and other countries. But it’s for the first time that it was sighted together,” he added.
Meanwhile, old city was decked up well to greet the rozedaars on the first day of Ramzan.
The eateries at the Nazeerabad, Chowk and Akbari Gate known for serving traditional non-vegetarian cuisines were seen all packed and remained open till the time of sehri.
