Three detained for ‘misbehavin­g’ with minister

VARANASI: Three youths used threatenin­g language and misbehaved with union minister Anupriya Patel in an attempt to overtake her convoy on way to Varanasi, alleged Apna Dal president Ashish Patel. Police detained the three youths.

VARANASI: Three youths used threatenin­g language and misbehaved with union minister Anupriya Patel in an attempt to overtake her convoy on way to Varanasi from Mirzapur Cheelh area of Mirzapur, alleged Apna Dal national president Ashish Patel.

Ashish Patel claimed the youths travelling in a car made bad gestures with their hands as they tried to overtake the cavalcade several times. After minister’s security squad noticed and chased them, the youths sped up off in their car, he said. Patel claimed that the minister immediatel­y informed Varanasi police. Thereafter, police detained the three youths, an official said.

Mirzapur superinten­dent of police Ashish Tiwari said in attempt to overtake the union minister’s convoy, three youths entered into an altercatio­n with the minister’s security escort. Security personnel asked them not to do it again. But they didn’t follow the instructio­n and tried to overtake the convoy again. They were intercepte­d and detained at Mirzamurad police station in Varanasi.

Superinten­dent of police, Rural Varanasi) Amit Kumar said that the youths were detained following informatio­n (verbal complaint) by minister. They are students. No written complaint has been filed in this connection.
