LUCKNOW: A 22-year-old woman and her paramour were arrested on Sunday for murdering her husband whose body was found floating in river Gomti in Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) area on the city outskirts last Wednesday.

Police said the murder was the fallout of the woman’s love affair with the youth staying in the neighbourhood of her maternal house and the duo wanted to get married.

Inspector of BKT police station, Tej Prakash Singh said the body of the deceased Ram Prakash, 27, a resident of Itaunja’s Bhawanipur village was found floating in river Gomti on Wednesday morning and its post-mortem examination revealed that he was strangled.

He said the deceased’s identity was ascertained on Friday when his elder brother Sheikhu approached the police after his mysterious disappearance since Tuesday night.

He said Ram Prakash was married to Neetu Lodh of Shivpuri village of BKT few months ago and disappeared when he left his house to irrigate his field on intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Singh said the investigation revealed that Neetu had a love affair with Amit Yadav who stays in the neighbourhood of her maternal house. He said Neetu’s family forcibly got her married to Ram Prakash after which she remained tensed and tried to get rid of her marriage.

The inspector said that Neetu, with the help of Amit, planned to eliminate Ram Prakash and get married later. He said Neetu tipped off Amit about Ram Prakash’s movement and his presence in his farming field.

He said that Amit, with help of his two friends Rankaj Yadav and Manish Yadav alias Chottu, surrounded Ram Prakash in the field and strangled him.

Thereafter, they took his the body in a pick-up jeep and disposed it off in river Gomti in a bid to conceal the crime, he added.

The inspector added that Amit Yadav and Neetu Lodh had been arrested after their confessions while efforts were on to nab Rankaj and Manish who were found missing from their houses. He said the duo had been booked for murder, criminal conspiracy and concealment of crime.
