Yogi calls for smart makeover of villages
VARANASI: Chief minister Yogi Adiyanath on Sunday asked local people and village heads to make their villages adarsh (model) and smart ones.
“Ensure that each village in your respective gram panchayat is clean, the streets have solar powered LED lights, there is a public address system at a common place and a waste disposal ground outside each village,” he said. Yogi was addressing 760 village heads under the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan at Deendayal Upadhyaya Trade Facilitation Centre here. He also called upon village heads to help people benefit from welfare schemes without discrimination and end factionalism in their respective gram panchayats. “Remember, there cannot be an alternative to development. So work for development of villages in your respective gram panchayats. Help everyone without any discrimination — those who voted for you and those who didn’t. Help the locals (those eligible) get benefits of various welfare schemes,” the chief minister said. By using their rights and working for development, the village heads could change the situation in villages, Adityanath said. He said though the Garibi Hatao slogan was coined in 1970, poverty could not be eliminated. Serious efforts to alleviate poverty started in 2014 after Narendra Modi took over as prime minister, he said. Thirty-two crore Jan Dhan accounts were opened and financially weaker sections were given free gas connections, he said. He said development had touched new heights under PM Modi’s leadership.

Yogi also provided certificate and a cheque worth Rs 4000 each to eight village heads for ensuring development and making the Swachh Bharat mission a success in their respective gram panchayats.
