LUCKNOW: A seminar on sports medicine was conducted at the Sashastra Seema Bal headquarters on Thursday where Prof Ashish Kumar, head sports medicine at KGMU, was the speaker. “Sports injuries do not only happen to sportspersons. Even riding a bike can give injuries such as tennis elbow – a known injury among tennis players. Accelerating a bike has similar impact on a muscle such as taking a backhand shot,” said Prof Kumar. The KGMU has recently constituted a separate department of sports medicine and its OPD will start from Friday. “The dedicated OPD will cater to the specific needs of sports injury patients,” said Kumar, adding: “Every week, I get such cases where non-players are diagnosed with sports injury.”
