GORAKHPUR: Dr Kafeel on Thursday met ADG law and order Mohit Aggarwal in Lucknow and sought action against cops who made him run from one hospital to another for medico legal formalities which in turn had delayed the surgery of his brother Kashif Jameel, who was shot at by unidentified miscreants in Gorakhpur on June 10.

Dr Kafeel said the surgery which had to be done immediately to save his brother’s life was delayed by four hours in medico legal formalities, first at district hospital and then 15 km away at BRD medical college even as the bullet remained stuck in Kashif’s neck.

“We had come here to meet DGP but we could only meet ADG Mohit Aggarwal. We had sought action against circle officer, Gorakhnath Praveen Singh and SP crime Vinay Singh, who, first conducted medico legal formalities at district hospital and then took us 15 km away to conduct second medico legal at BRD medical college, where doctor refused to do so saying medico legal had already been done at district hospital and it was not required now,” said he said.

“My brother was yelling in pain but these cops were so insensitive due to which we lost four crucial hours. He was shot at around 10.30 but the bullet was removed from his neck only around 3 in the morning. My brother could have died, the doctor added.

He said that four days have passed since the incident but no accused have been nabbed so far.

SSP Shalabh Mathur, however, refused the charges of police apathy saying that they were referred to the district hospital for medico legal formalities and then to BRD medical college.

“We have the referral letter with us. He was then referred to KGMU by BRD doctors but they chose to get Kashif operated upon in Star hospital. Secondly, we are on the verge of working out the case.” SSP said
