LUCKNOW: Several Shia clerics from various parts of Uttar Pradesh would participate in a daylong demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on June 23 to protest the desecration of Jannat-Ul-Baqi, a scared graveyard in Saudi Arab.

The clerics are demanding reconstruction of the graveyard in Medina, which was destroyed by Saudi Arab approximately 90 years ago, and it is believed that the family of Prophet Mohammed is buried there.

“This is not the first time we have raised this issue. In fact, last year also we had organized a rally in New Delhi to draw the attention of the Saudi regime towards the issue,” said a member of the Hussaini Aazadaar,

which would live telecast the event. Besides Lucknow, clerics and a large number of Muslims from Allahabad, Kanpur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Aligarh and Delhi were expected to reach the venue to participate in the demonstration, he said.

“In fact Sunnis should also condemn and come forward and demand this act of the regime as the pious graveyard in which the companions and family members of the holy Prophet are buried, is equally important for them also,” said Maulana Zeeshan Mehdi.
