MEERUT: Cases have been registered against seven persons including the husband and daughter of BJP MLC Sarojini Agarwal for duping people on the pretext of providing them affordable houses under government scheme.

SP (city) Ranvijay Singh confirmed that eight cases against the MLC’s husband Om Prakash Agarwal, daughter Neema Agarwal and five others have been registered in Daurala police station on the order of the court.

“We will investigate to verify the charges levelled in the complaints,” said Singh.

Haji Mohd Irfan Ansari, one of the complainants, said he and seven other complainants approached the court when police didn’t pay heed to their complaints despite their requests. He said the accused duped more than 300 applicants of ₹10 crore who applied for affordable homes.

Describing the charges baseless, Sarojini Agarwal said: “My husband Dr OP Agarwal and daughter Neema are directors in a company Prateek Deal Com Pvt Ltd, which owns our land in Lawar area.”

“This company signed an MoU with Anurag Garg and his associates for constructing affordable houses on the land. We only provided them land and it was the sole responsibility of Anurag and his associates to get the map and other formalities approved from the development authority. But they formed a company with the name of Arvansh CC infrastructure and collected money from people, which was not in our knowledge. They committed a fraud with us and a case regarding this was lodged against Anurag and his associates in Daurala police station,” she said.
