Boy thrashed, video goes vi­ral

AHMED­ABAD: A Dalit boy was thrashed for dress­ing up like Dar­bars (Ksha­triyas) in Ahmed­abad’s Man­dal taluka, al­legedly by two youth from the dom­i­nant caste, po­lice said.

The Gu­jarat po­lice on Thursday reg­is­tered an FIR against two youth af­ter a video went vi­ral. It showed a 13-year-old be­ing beaten with heavy stick, kicked in var­i­ous parts of the body and made to touch the feet of the two ac­cused. The in­ci­dent hap­pened on Wednesday.

“We have booked one Bhartsinh Dar­bar and an­other youth,” said Bechraji po­lice in­spec­tor R R Solanki.

Solanki added, “The case has been reg­is­tered for as­sault and atroc­ity.”

In Ahmed­abad dis­trict, the Dal­its have re­cently be­gun so­cial me­dia cam­paign where in they added the suf­fix Sinh to their name, which is tra­di­tion­ally at­tached to the names of Dar­bars.

It started af­ter a clash be­tween the two com­mu­ni­ties .
