NIRMAL MEETS GOVERNOR, RAISES QUOTA ISSUE IN AMU
LUCKNOW: Chairperson of Uttar Pradesh Schedule Caste Finance and Development Corporation Lalji Prasad Nirmal met governor Ram Naik on Monday and demanded reservation for Dalits in Aligarh Muslim University.
Nirmal also handed over a memorandum to the governor requesting to take steps in this regard.
Nirmal is also national president of the Ambedkar Mahasabha.
AMU is a central university like the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), which has 22.5 percent reservation for Dalit students.
“A delegation of Ambedkar Mahasabha will also meet AMU VC soon to take up the issue,” said Nirmal.
“It was the Congress party that amended the constitution to avert 22.5 percent reservation in the AMU. No step was taken by the BSP and the Samajwadi Party also,” added Nirmal.
It may be pointed out that chairman, National Commission for Schedule Castes and Agra MP, Ram Shanker Katheria has called a meeting on Tuesday in Aligarh to discuss the issue.
Along with officials of the district administration, pro-vice chancellor of the AMU Prof Tabassum Sahab will also be present at the meeting as the vice chancellor is out of station.
