AGRA: A 13-year-old boy was killed on Tuesday after the damaged floor of his school bus caved in and he slipped through it and got crushed by the rear wheel of the vehicle.

Aditya, a Class 6 student of Pooran Chand Ramesh Chand Saraswati Vidya Mandir, lost his life when he was preparing to get off the bus while on way home after school got over.

The bus belonged to the school in Kheragarh town, nearly 30 km from Agra city.

The police has seized the bus and took the driver, Islam, into custody.

“It appears that the floor of the bus was in bad condition and the student slipped through the floor after it caved in. The child was run over by a rear wheel of the bus and died on the spot. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination,” said Narendra Sharma, in-charge, Kheragarh police station.

Aditya used to go to school with his elder sister, Anushka, a Class 11 student, who was present in the bus when the tragedy happened. She and the other children in the bus were in a state of shock after the accident.

“We had complained to the authorities about some problems in the bus. It’s floor was weak and the vehicle was in poor condition but no attention was paid. The bus often used to stop midway and students were asked to push it. In the process, they used to get hurt,” complained Anushka.

“Aditya fell through the damaged floor of the bus, leaving his school bag behind,” said the weeping girl.

Angry over the incident, the villagers blocked the road in Kheragarh but the police pacified them.
