Crackdown on unauthorised schools, 127 sealed in 48 hrs
LUCKNOW : As many as 127 unauthorised private schools were sealed by the education department in Lucknow as part of a crackdown against such institutions.
The drive began on July 2 and 103 schools were shut on the first day, while 24 more were sealed on Tuesday.
As per the information provided by the education department, seven schools were sealed in BKT area, five were sealed in Gosainganj, four each in Malihabad and city area while two schools each were shut in Mal and Mohanlalganj.
“All these schools were found to be operating without proper registration from the education department,” said Amarkant Singh, basic shiksha adhikari (BSA), Lucknow.
The crackdown was undertaken by the officials of education department with the help of the local administration. The raid team pasted a notice outside each of the schools sealed.
“The school administrations were asked seek registration from the education department,” the officer added.
The team further advised the children at these schools to take admission in nearby government or private schools.
The drive, according to education department officials, will continue till next month. The crackdown is being undertaken on the direction of the district administration.
The action came after the education department shortlisted around 225 schools that were being operated in the state capital without proper compliance certificate.
“In the survey, it was found that these schools were being operated illegally. Most of these schools don’t even meet out the board’s criterion and lack proper infrastructure,” said an official with the secondary education department.
Officials concerned also warned of lodging FIR against the owners of schools found operating illegally.
