Baijnath Road: Open dumping has created a ‘stink zone’ here!
Residents plan to meet mayor regarding the problem
LUCKNOW: The garbage dumped in the open by Lucknow Municipal Corporation’s (LMC) sanitation workers near Baijnath Road in New Hyderabad has made the area a ‘stink zone’.
The residents have written several letters to the municipal authorities in this regard, but in vain.
“We have lodged several complaints with the LMC authorities, but they take everything for granted. Now, we have decided to meet the mayor regarding the problem,” said Bishar Ali, resident of New Hyderabad.
Afzal Azad, another resident, asked: “Why do LMC sanitation workers dump the waste on the road…why can’t they transport it directly to the landfill site. If this is the situation in the state capital, then what would be the state of affairs in other cities.”
“Because of such things, Lucknow is languishing at 115th place in the sanitation index. They ask for our cooperation and downloading the swacchta app, but what’s the use of it if things don’t improve. The foul smell from the garbage is suffocating and makes life of people miserable,” said Vivek Singh of Baijnath road.
Pramod Singh, husband of corporator Vineeta Singh, said, “Earlier there was a garbage dumpyard near Eldeco Basera apartment, but during the previous government’s tenure under the pressure of some influential people the dumpyard was closed and sanitation workers started dumping waste here. I wrote many letters to the then municipal commissioner stating that there is a temple next to the garbage dumping point but nothing was done. I am going to take up the matter with the authorities again.” Additional municipal commissioner Anil Kumar said, “Now, the matter has come to my knowledge and I will visit the area soon to see what solution could be offered.”
