Soon, goods produced in UP prisons to get a brand

LUCKNOW: The state prison department is planning to launch a brand of products manufactured in prisons across the state to facilitate their sale in coming days.

This was one of the proposals discussed in the twoday conference of prison superintendents in Lucknow. The conference concluded on Thursday.

“The prison brand will help to promote products of our jails ,” said ADG Prison Chandra Prakash who headed the conference.

the same lines, the ADG also asked officials to use fertile land in prisons for farming and establish dairies in 12 prisons across the state. “The government has provided us clearance to establish the dairies. Work on these lines will begins once funds are released,”he said .

Apart from reforms, the conference stressed on strict implementation of guidelines laid down in the prison manual in controlling day to day affairs. “It was communicated to all officials to ensure that prisoners do not use mobile phones from inside the prison and no prisoner is given treatment better than others,” he said . “I have also asked to ensure strict discipline by people who manage the prison.”

Modernisation of prions was also discussed. “We decide to upload relevant information of prisoner on online e-prison portal and connect it with judicial and administrative systems. This will ensure better management of prison and related systems,” he said .
