CO transferre­d, varsity police outpost in-charge suspended

LUCKNOW: UP director general of police OP Singh on Thursday ordered an inquiry into the violence at Lucknow University, taking serious note of the alleged negligence of police personnel in the incident.

He ordered the transfer of circle officer (CO) of Mahanagar and suspended LU police outpost in-charge with immediate effect for alleged negligence in the matter.

The decision came after the DGP’s meeting with a delegation of LU administra­tion comprising vice-chancellor SP Singh and other teachers injured in the alleged attack by a group of youths on the university campus on Wednesday.

Besides, the Lucknow police arrested three persons allegedly involved in the violence in which several LU teachers and authoritie­s were injured.

The DGP said IG (Lucknow range) Sujeet Pandey had been asked to conduct a detailed inquiry into the entire sequence of events and alleged lapses on the police front. He questioned as to why adequate arrangemen­ts were not made on the university campus when there was prior intimation by the LU administra­tion apprehendi­ng trouble.

Singh said he heard the allegation­s made by the LU delegation and assured them of stern action against cops responsibl­e for alleged delayed action.

Meanwhile, the Lucknow police spokesman said three persons – Ashish Mishra alias ‘Boxer’, Ankit and Ayush were arrested in the Wednesday violence. LU proctor Vinod Singh had lodged FIR against 25 people in connection with the alleged attack on teachers and authoritie­s.

In the FIR, he had identified four persons – Ashish Mishra, Vinay Yadav, Himanshu and Akash Srivastava who were involved in the incident.

District police spokesman Arun Kumar said cops were trying to identify other people through video footages and photograph­s telecast or published in the media.

He said some more people had been taken into custody for questionin­g and raids were on to search for other people.
