-

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh police on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for crime mapping analytics and predictive system (CMAPS).

The MoU was signed by UP DGP OP Singh and director of ADRIN (Advanced Data Processing Research Institute) ISRO, Department of Space, Government of India, V Raghu Venkataraman, here at DGP headquarters. This MoU will be valid for three years.

DGP OP Singh said that crime mapping involved providing tools as well as technologies for many things. He said that the tools which had been developed by ADRIN would help the state police in a big way, in the field of crime incident data, crime mapping, reporting and visualizing .

He said data from UP Police, UP100 and Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) would be made available to the ADRIN in ISRO and its experts would help the state police to map, visualise, create queries and report about crimes or criminal incidents.

He said this would enable the state police to analyse crimes and build profiles of the offenders or criminals as well as the complainants, helping cops in predictive policing.

The DGP said that crime was changing its dimensions every day, and that was why there was need of a scientific and objective mind to detect it, work it out and analyse the main cause to derive a conclusion and preventive plan. On the occasion, the director of ADRIN congratulated the UP Police for its remarkable technological progress in the past few months. He expressed his commitment to serve the needs of UP Police so that it would benefit the society at large. The MoU was signed in the presence of ADG UP100 Aditya Mishra and lead scientist of Data Analytics and Knowledge Engineering Division Novaline Jacob.
