LU TEACHERS DEMAND SSP’S TRANSFER

-

LUCKNOW: After the high court questioned Lucknow SSP Deepak Kumar about the steps taken to arrest those involved in LU violence, the Lucknow University Teachers’ Association (LUTA) demanded transfer of the SSP within 24 hours.

“Though the CO of Mahanagar was transferred and LU police outpost in-charge was suspended, no action was taken against the SSP who has remained most unsupportive when it comes to handling law and order situation on the campus,” said a LUTA office-bearer.

LUTA president Dinesh Kumar said another demand was to mount pressure on the police for immediate arrest of other culprits involved in the July 4 violence.

“A few people were arrested, but there are several others and they must be held soon,” he said.

LUTA said in view of the court taking note of the incident, they will hold a meeting again on July 9 to assess the situation and take a final call on their stir.

A number of teachers criticised university officials for taking action against a select group and letting off student leaders having affinity with the right wing party.

A teacher demanded that a proper police station be set up on the campus replacing the existing police outpost. “The police station close to the university must be quick to respond,” he said.
