-

MEERUT: The driver of the chief medical officer was arrested for opening fire on a doctor at CMO office on Thursday night, police said. Circle officer, Civil Lines, Ram Araj said, “We have arrested the prime accused Ravinder Nagar. Efforts are on to arrest his aide Manish Sharma who is a ward boy and another identified person.” He said a recommendation had been made to cancel the arms licence of the accused.

CMO Dr Rajkumar Chaudhary said the driver and his aide had been suspended.

“A case of attempt to murder has been lodged against Ravinder, Manish and another person who was accompanying them when the crime was committed,” he said. According to police, it all started when Dr Satish Bhaskar, the in-charge of Hastinapur health centre, sought an explanation from Dr Amit Bharti who didn`t turn up for duty in emergency a few days ago.

The CMO said the government doctors had a meeting of their association in his office on Thursday evening and the issue was settled in the presence of both the doctors.

Dr Chandan Prakash, who is also posted in Hastinapur health centre, supported Dr Bhaskar on the issue. Ravinder, who is a distant relative of Dr Bharti, got agitated at this. He shot at Dr Prakash from his licensed pistol when the doctor was speaking on his mobile after the meeting. Ward boy Manish and one unidentified person were with Ravinder when the attack took place. Dr Prakash was admitted to a private hospital.
