Gorakhpur admin launches app to help encephalitis patients
GORAKHPUR: In yet another effort to combat encephalitis, an epidemic that kills hundreds of children in eastern UP every year, the Gorakhpur administration on Friday launched an android based mobile app ‘Stop JE/AES’ which will enable the user to get immediate medical help.
Launched jointly by divisional commissioner Anil Kumar and district magistrate Vijayendra Pandian, the app can be used on any smart phone without the internet facility, thereby enabling those residing in even remote locations to get timely medical aid.
Briefing journalists about the working of the app, the commissioner said by pressing the help button in the app one can send the alert to the control room that would call back on the number to collect details about the patient. As first response to the report, auxiliary mid wives (ANMs) will be rushed to the patient and they will take the patient to the nearest community health centre, primary health centre or to a hospital through ambulance service.
“For encephalitis patients, first 48 hours are very important and through this app they can be rushed to the hospital without any delay thus saving the lives,” the commissioner said.
He added that during the treatment, automatic alerts sent via app to the chief medical officer’s office and concerned health officials would help keep tabs on the condition of the patient.
