Trader brothers shot dead in Pratapgarh
ALLAHABAD :Unidentified-motorcycle borne persons shot dead two cement trader brothers at the busy Kaudhaur Bazar in neighbouring Pratapgarh district on Wednesday night, police said.
Witnesses informed police that Shyam Sundar, 45 and Shyam Surat, 40, were at their shop when the killers came on a motorcycle and opened fire.
The brothers were declared dead at the district hospital.
Angry traders blocked Pratapgarh-Sultanpur highway in protest against the double murder.
The traders alleged that Shyam Sundar was threatened recently and protection money was demanded from him by extortionists three months back. They also claimed police took no action though Shyam Sundar made a complaint to senior officials.
Inspector general of police (Allahabad zone) Ramit Sharma rushed to Pratapgarh. Heavy force was deployed in the area as a precautionary measure as panic gripped the area after the incident.
Personnel from several police stations led by senior police officials were sent to the spot.
Sharma said instructions had been issued to launch a hunt for the killers.
