PGI faculty at loggerheads with hospital admn
LUCKNOW:The Faculty Forum of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) is at loggerheads with the hospital administration over the issue of reappointing some of the faculty members for five more years after their retirement at 65 years of age. They will also meet governor Ram Naik within a week to highlight the drawbacks of the proposal.
To note, the PGI administration has prepared a proposal for reappointment of retired faculty members till 70 years of age, on the recommendation of a committee formed by the medical education department. The faculty forum has termed this step as giving back door entry to retired faculty . They are also upset over the proposal of the retired faculty reporting directly to the PGI director and not to the head of the department. This would create two power centres and work of the department would suffer, said secretary of the forum Dr MS Ansari. The faculty forum has also opposed reappointments in departments where there is no requirement of faculty . “By reappointment, the PGI administration is trying to oblige some doctors who are close to them. Such doctors would be getting a salary besides getting a hefty pension after the retirement,” Dr Ansari said.
He said giving appointment twice would be opposed at every level.
Dr Ansari also said the hospital administration was misguiding the state government over the issue. There was no dearth of talent and youths were ready to replace the retiring doctors.
