VARANASI: Saffron-clad kanwarias created ruckus at three different locations in Varanasi region after a speeding vehicle hit two Kanwariyas in Raja Talab area here and ran over another kanwaria in Mungra Badshahpur area of Jaunpur on Wednesday.

Timely action by administration, however, stopped turning the situation from getting ugly at both the places.

The administration has kept a lane on Allahabad road for the kanwarias. On late Wednesday evening, two kanwarias, including Anil Pal and Shani, were injured after being hit by a speedy bike near Veerbhanpur village under Rohania police station in the district. Kanwariyas informed police on dial 100 and ambulance service.

Kanwariyas blamed the police and said they reached half an hour after the information. Enraged over it, they started creating ruckus. They reportedly misbehaved with the passersby and broke barricading.

A team of police led by circle officer Ankita Singh rushed to the spot. She tried to placate the angry kanwariyas. But they didn’t cool down. Later more force was called and the kanwariyas were asked to move towards the city.

According to information reaching from Bhadohi, five kanwariyas sustained injuries in five separate incidents, police said. After the incident, they stage to road blockade, but police managed to cool them, assuring them of action against those involved in rash driving.

Kanwaria Neeraj Dubey, who sustained critical injuries after being hit by a Magic in Satarahia area under Mungra Badshahpur area of Jaunpur district on Wednesday, breathed his last on way to the hospital. Enraged over the incident, the Kanwarias staged road blockade.

Heavy police force reached the spot and controlled the situation. The driver of the Magic van was arrested, police said.

Superintendent of police (rural area) Amit Kumar said, “Eleven police response vehicles (PRVs) have been deployed for regular patrolling on the roads being used by the kanwariyas. Six PRVs keep a vigil in roads in rural pockets, while five others in the city.”
