State govt sends letter for CBI probe
The move comes after dist administration forwards all details of the incident to the state govt
LUCKNOW/DEORIA :The home department on Thursday sent a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recommending a CBI probe into the Deoria shelter home scandal.
It may be pointed out that chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday recommended CBI probe into the scandal.
The Deoria scandal came to light on August 5 when one of the inmates escaped from the shelter home and went to a police station where she complained about atrocities at the shelter home.
Earlier, the Deoria district administration had forwarded all details related to the incident to the state government.
“Details related to the alleged sexual abuse of inmates of Maa Vindhyavasini Mahila and Balika Sanrakshan Grih have been forwarded to the state government,” district magistrate Amit Kishore said.
He said detailes included the copy of the FIR against shelter home operators Girija Tripathi and her husband Mohan Tripathi and the allegations made by the rescued girls.
The DM said the officials were directed to prepare a complete file of documents required by the central agency to initiate its probe.
Kishore took over as the district magistrate of Deoria on Tuesday after the former DM Sujeet Kumar was removed following alleged lapses by the district administration.
The government had also suspended the then district probation officer (DPO) Abhishek Pandey on Monday in view of serious lapses by the local administration.
The government also dissolved the Deoria district child welfare committee and formed a special investigation team (SIT) to check tampering of evidence and collect evidence till the CBI takes over the case. Police raided the shelter home on August 5.
They rescued 24 women and arrested the shelter home manager Girija Tripathi, her husband Mohan Tripathi and their daughters Kanchan Lata Tripathi and Kanak Lata Tripathi.
