Details of shelter homes’ inmates to go online: Joshi

LUCKNOW: State women and child welfare department has decided to put details of the inmates staying in shelter homes online.

“The number of the inmates staying in the shelter homes and their details will be available on the government website,” said UP women and child welfare minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

A regular inspection of the shelter homes will be made by members of the State Women Commission and the State Children Welfare Commission.

These decisions were taken in a meeting of the department chaired by Joshi.

A social audit of the shelter homes will be made by eight state universiti­es. They are Ram Manohar Lohia Law University, Lucknow University, Agra University, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, BHU, Varanasi, Bareilly University, BR Ambedkar University, Jhansi and RML University Faizabad.

The inspection and audit remarks of the shelter homes will also be available online. The shelter homes run by the social welfare department and the handicap empowermen­t department will also be under the scanner.

Joshi also directed the officers to review the grants given to the shelter

homes by different government department­s. The officers should also ensure that the aid was given to the NGOs running the shelter homes according to the rules.
