Oxygen supply to hospital on track
GORAKHPUR: Taking lessons from the last year’s tragedy at Baba Raghav Das (BRD) medical college which claimed the lives of at least 60 children allegedly due to disruption in oxygen supply, the supply of liquid oxygen is now on track, hospital authorities said.
“To ensure adequate stock, the present oxygen supplying firm, INOX of Rajasthan, is setting up an extra storage tank with a capacity of 13 KL (kilolitre) on the campus free of cost,” principal of BRD medical college Ganseh Kushawaha said.
The existing capacity at the hospital is of 16 KL.
The oxygen supply, both liquid and jumbo cylinder, is normal. A source in the hospital said that the bills of oxygen supplier till the month of July had been cleared. “In July, two bills of Rs 3.09 lakh and Rs 3.06 lakhs have been cleared by the administration. The medical college is getting a supply of 2-3 tankers every month,” he said. Each tanker costs around Rs 3 lakh which has a capacity of 15,000-16,000 litres,
“Oxygen supply is smooth and uninterrupted. As soon as the pressure level reaches around 2,000 in the storage tank, the department is alerted and a new consignment is ordered. The tanker reaches Gorakhpur in 2-3 days. Refuting allegations leveled by Samajwadi Party leader Prahlad Yadav that BRD medical college was purchasing oxygen from INOX at a much higher rate than the previous supplier Pushpa Sales, BRD college principal said: “There is no possibility of any irregularity as the firm was chosen through the transparent E e-tendering process.”
