‘Like-minded parties should unite to dislodge BJP’
VARANASI: Independent MLA from Gujarat and dalit leader Jignesh Mevani on Thursday said like-minded parties should come together for dislodging BJP-led NDA government at the Centre in 2019.
“Like-minded parties, including the Left, the SP, the BSP, the Congress and those who want to save democracy and the Constitution, should come on a common platform to uproot the BJP in 2019 general election,” Jignesh Mevani said in Nav Dalit Sammelan at Kabir Chaura Matt here.
“Bahen Ji (BSP chief Mayawati) is my sister. If Bahen Ji stands (leads the front) and is flanked by Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan (Bhim Army president) and Jignesh Mevani, what will Modi Ji do then,” he asked.
Mevani, who represents Vadgam assembly constituency, also said the Modi government had failed to fulfil the promises the BJP made during the 2014 parliamentary elections.
He further said since both he and PM Modi belonged to the same state, he had come to Varanasi (Modi’s parliamentary constituency) to find out whether any development had taken place in the city in the last four years or not. “Where are 2 crore jobs? Whether the Ganga has been cleaned in the last four years? What is the status of Banarsi saree industry? Youths in Varanasi are disappointed due to problem of unemployment. Only ‘jumlas’ (statements) are there, nothing has happened on ground,” he alleged.
