HOW COURT MODIFIED LODHA REFORMS
ONE STATE, ONE VOTE
What Lodha said: No state shall have more than one full member at any given point of time.
What SC said: These associations (Mumbai, Vidarbha, Maharashtra, Baroda, Saurashtra & Gujarat) have a long history of nurturing talent and produced international players. The principle of territoriality requires that each of the states should have full membership.
ON RAILWAYS AND SERVICES
What Lodha said: Railways, Services and Universities not being tied to the territory of one state should be associate members. What SC said: We grant Railways and Services full member status. The representative who would exercise voting must be a former Railways/Services cricketer elected by an association of former Railways/Services players and not someone nominated by the government or the RSPB/SSPB.
ON SELECTORS
What Lodha said: There will be three selectors. With the constitution of a Cricket Talent Committee, the selection committee will be more compact, increase its authority and make it accountable.
What SC said: There will be five selectors. A selector should have played a minimum of (a) seven Tests; or (b) 30 first class matches; or (c) 10 ODIs and a minimum of 20 first class matches.
ON COOLING OFF PERIOD
What Lodha said: The tenure of each term for office bearers should be three years; a maximum of three terms should be allowed regardless of the post held; and there should be a mandatory ‘cooling off period’ after each term. What SC said: It would be appropriate to direct that a cooling off period of three years would apply after an individual holds two successive terms in office either in the BCCI, or in any state association or a combination of the two.
