No retirement as player, PK qualifies for coaches’ course
LUCKNOW: It’s now official that Team India’s former swing bowler Praveen Kumar would soon become a qualified coach of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as he is among 32 cricketers from Uttar Pradesh, who have been announced successful for Level A coaches course conducted by the National Cricket Academy at Bengaluru.
A 31-year-old cricketer from Meerut, Praveen is yet to announce his retirement officially. He is also eligible for level-B course as per the release issued by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. He secured 70 per cent marks in the eightday training/exam conducted by the UPCA at the Kamla Club in Kanpur last month.
Praveen, who has so far played six tests (27 wkts), 68 ODIs (77 wkts), 10 Twenty20 (10 wkts), has 595 wickets in first class etc., had a disastrous season early this year in the domestic Twenty20 event where he could get just three wickets in six matches.
He was India’s best bowler during a disastrous Test tour of England in 2011, and his name was penciled on the Lord’s honours board. Among his best achievements is the match-winning spell he bowled against Australia in the final of the 2007-08 CB Series.
Besides Praveen, others who are eligible for Level A coaches course include Mritunjay Tripathi, Satyendra Yadav, Akhil Tyagi, Parvinder Singh, Majid Khalil, Manoj Singh, Anshul Kapoor, Tanmay Srivastava, Mohd Saif, Sandeep Mehrotra, Parul Chaudhary, Narendra Singh, Chitra Singh, Alok Pandey, Manoj Singh, Yashvardhan Uchaharia, Ajay Kumar, Paritosh Vaidya, Jatinder Pal Singh, Mohd Rashid, Vikram Kumar, Vivek Kumar Singh, Preeti Mehra, Yash Shukla, Ravinder Singh Negi, Sonu Pandey, Anshuman Kamboj, Ashish Sharma, Vikas Paliwal and Mohd Fazil.
