7 inmates flee govt juvenile home, DM suspends 7

The home was packed beyond capacity

ALLAHABAD: Seven inmates escaped from the government-run juvenile home in Khuldabad locality here early on Thursday morning, police said.

Taking cognizance of the security lapse, district magistrate Suhas LY has suspended all seven officials who were on duty at the time of the incident. The suspended officials include two police constables, two home guards, a caretaker and two class 4 employees.

Taking cognizance of the security lapse, district magistrate Suhas LY has suspended all seven officials who were on duty at the time of the incident.

The suspended officials include two police constables, two home guards, a caretaker and two class 4 employees.

The incident was captured on the CCTV camera of the juvenile home. An FIR has been lodged at Khuldabad police station while hunt is on for the absconding inmates.

Assistant superinten­dent of the juvenile home Shri Prakash Singh said, “In the early hours of Thursday, seven inmates escaped from the juvenile home by bending the iron grill of a

window. All of them were brought here from the neighbouri­ng districts of Fatehpur, Pratapgarh and other parts of Allahabad.”

According to Singh, the maximum capacity of the juvenile home is 70, but a total of 110 inmates aged between 10 and 18 years were lodged here making the management of daily activities a tough task.

The district magistrate said seven staff members, who were on duty at the time of incident, have been suspended. “A case

has also been lodged,” he said.

Those suspended include constables Anup Kumar and Surjeet Kumar, home guards Vinod Kumar and Shibu Kumar, caretaker Shivjeet and two class 4 employees Arjun Yadav and Jaggu Mishra. The inmates who escaped were offenders under different sections of the IPC, including 413, 414, 457, 472 among others for dealing in stolen goods, concealmen­t of stolen goods, burglary, forgery, possession of counterfei­t seal etc.”
