LUCKNOW:After the transfer of SP (Deoria), UP police top brass is likely to initiate action against investigation officers in cases related to 121 girls who were sent to Maa Vindhyavasini Mahila evam Balika Sanrakshan Grih in Deoria despite the state government banning it in June 2017.

These girls were recovered from different places in connection with separate cases.

On Wednesday, the UP government transferred five IPS officers including SP (Deoria) Rohan P Kanay who was police chief of the district when the Deoria shelter home case came to light on August 5. Circle officer (CO) Sadar Dayaram Singh Gaur was also shifted from there.

Earlier, Deoria district magistrate Sujit Kumar and district probation officer Abhishek Pandey had already been served marching orders. In the shelter home row, another senior IPS officer Rakesh Shankar, DIG, Basti was among police officials who were shifted. He has been attached to DGP’s office. He was earlier posted as SP (Deoria) and there were allegations that he supported the infamous shelter home run by Girija Tripathi.

Kanay, who has been attached to DGP office, has been replaced by N Kolanchi who is new SP (Deoria). Kolanchi was SP (Mahoba). Kunwar Anupam Singh, who till now was SP (ATS) has now been made SP (Mahoba).

Kanay was accused of not taking action against the shelter home after registration of FIR on July 30. ADG, (Gorakhpur Range), Dawa Sherpa had probed into the role of the cops on the direction of state government.

Sources said ADG Gorakhpur is preparing a list of investigation officers involved in sending girls to illegally-run shelter homes. A senior official at DGP HQ said departmental inquiry would also be initiated against such IOs and suspension of some is likely.
