Cop suspended after his ‘brutality’ is caught on camera
LUCKNOW : In a shameful display of police brutality, a constable was caught on camera mercilessly beating up a tempo driver in Lucknow’s Madiaon area on Friday night.
In the video that went viral, the cop of UP 100 police response vehicle (PRV) was seen putting his foot on driver’s chest and beating him up.
Hours after the inhumane act came to the knowledge of senior officers, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Lucknow Kalanidhi Naithani ordered suspension of the constable and the subinspector, who was with him.
He also ordered an FIR against the constable for assault and voluntarily causing hurt.
Madiaon police station inspector TP Singh has also been removed and sent to police lines for his bad supervision of the entire incident.
The SSP said the initial probe confirmed that the video was made when the constable Anand Pratap Singh, along with his other PRV team members reached the Engineering College flyover after an incident of a tempo hitting a rickshaw carrying a family of three was reported at around 11.30 pm on Wednesday.
He said the call on UP 100 number was made by one Vinod Kumar.
The SSP said the constable violated the standard protocol of UP 100 in attending to such incidents and got involved in assaulting the tempo driver and putting foot on his chest.
The tempo driver has been identified as one Tintin.
The SSP said the PRV commander sub-inspector Ashok Kumar Mishra has also been suspended for playing a mute spectator to the incident. Sensitization drive follows In wake of the constable’s act, a day-long sensitisation drive for UP 100 police personnel was carried out across the state capital here on Saturday. The SSP said all gazetted and non-gazetted officers were asked to conduct counselling of UP 100 personnel and brief them about the standard protocol. He said the drive was carried out following frequent complaints of misbehaviour and improper conduct by UP 100 personnel.
