LUCKNOW : Sincere implementation of schemes can ensure that no one dies of hunger or illness, said chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday.

“There are so many government schemes. If their benefits reach the needy, no one will be left malnourished,” he said addressing the gathering at the Scientific Convention Centre after launching the Poshan Abhiyan (nutrition campaign) and Suposhan Health Mela.

Citing an example of how sincere efforts can bring a positive change he said the number of students in primary schools in Uttar Pradesh has gone up in the last one year.

“When I took charge in March 2017, there were 1.34 crore students in schools under the primary education department. We conducted the ‘school chalo’ campaign taking the number to 1.54 crore. We ran the campaign again in April and July this year taking the figure to 1.77 crore students,” he said.

“UP has 17% of India’s population. There are problems and challenges, but if we work as a team problems can be eliminated,” he added.

DIRECT BENEFIT TRANSFER FOR RATION

The chief minister said the government was planning to introduce a direct benefit transfer for ration card holders to check malpractices.

“This way the beneficiaries will have the freedom to buy food from any shop and not just the listed ones,” he said.

The CM further explained how several lakh fake ration cards were cancelled and fresh ones were issued to the actual beneficiaries in the state.

MORE TO GET AYUSHMAAN BENEFITS

The state government has decided to add more beneficiaries to Ayushmaan health scheme. The chief minister said that 1.18 crore families have been already listed, but some eligible ones have not been included. “We have decided to prepare a fresh list and the state will ensure they get the benefit,” he said.
