Country wants to know more about Shastri’s death, says Adityanath
VARANASI: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said the citizens of the country wanted to know more about former Prime Minister the late Lal Bahadur Shastri’s death. He said this during his visit to Ramnagar in Varanasi to inaugurate Shastri Smriti Bhavan Sangrahalaya.
Dedicating the Lal Bahadur Shastri Smriti Bhavan Sangrahalaya (Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Museum), the chief minister and governor Ram Naik unveiled a life-size statue of former PM Shastri and his wife Lalita Shastri. Yogi also paid a tribute to Shastri.
Interacting with the media Yogi said, “Citizens of this country want to know what caused the untimely death of Shastri ji, who made India self-reliant in food grains and strengthened national security. He also ensured a glorious victory for the country in the 1965 war.”
Praising the former PM Yogi further said, “Lal Bahadur Shastriji did a great job as a prime minister, leaving behind the legacy of his glorious leadership. He took several steps to ensure development and prosperity in the nation. At the behest of his kin, his native place has been developed into a memorial. The memorial, which was inaugurated today, will inspire people to follow his steps.”
He further said that a corpus fund will be created so that the memorial can be expanded.
Yogi went on to add that despite being born in a poor family, Shastriji completed his education.
He used to swim across the Ganga to attend school in Kashi.
He never let poverty become a hurdle in his way.
He further informed that he requested Shastri’s kin that the inauguration of the Smriti Bhavan Sangrahalay should be done before the 114th birth anniversary of Shastriji on October 2.
The chief minister and governor watched pictures displaying the life of Shastri at the museum. They also saw the utensils and articles used by Lalita Shastri. UP health minister Sidharth Nath Singh, culture minister Laxminarayan Chaudhary and former PM Shastri’s sons Sunil Shastri and Anil Shastri were present on the occasion.
